What Is MSME / Udyam Registration?
MSME (Micro, Small and Medium Enterprise) registration — now called Udyam Registration — is an official recognition by the Ministry of MSME, Government of India. Registered on the Udyam Registration Portal (udyamregistration.gov.in), it issues a unique Udyam Registration Number (URN) and a certificate that serves as proof of MSME status.
The registration is free of cost and based on self-declaration. It does not require any documents to be uploaded — registration is done using PAN and Aadhaar alone, with data auto-populated from government databases.
MSME classification is based on both investment in plant & machinery/equipment AND annual turnover (as amended in 2020):
| Category | Investment in Plant & Machinery | Annual Turnover |
|---|---|---|
| Micro Enterprise | Up to Rs. 1 crore | Up to Rs. 5 crore |
| Small Enterprise | Up to Rs. 10 crore | Up to Rs. 50 crore |
| Medium Enterprise | Up to Rs. 50 crore | Up to Rs. 250 crore |
Both conditions (investment AND turnover) must be within the respective limits for the category. Service enterprises are also eligible — the investment criterion applies to equipment for service businesses.
Key Benefits of MSME Registration
Collateral-Free Loans (CGTMSE)
Under the Credit Guarantee Fund Trust for Micro and Small Enterprises (CGTMSE), MSMEs can get collateral-free working capital loans up to Rs. 2 crore. No security deposit or personal guarantee required.
Delayed Payment Protection
Under MSMED Act Sections 15–23, if a buyer does not pay within 45 days, they must pay compound interest at 3× RBI bank rate. MSME can file application before MSME Facilitation Council (MSEFC) in Pondicherry.
Government Procurement Preference
Government portals (GeM) require MSME/Udyam registration. 25% of government procurement is reserved for MSMEs. 3% sub-reservation for women-owned MSMEs.

Priority sector lending with interest subvention schemes. MUDRA loans up to Rs. 10 lakhs for micro enterprises. SIDBI schemes for micro and small businesses.
ISO / Patent / Bar Code Subsidies
Registered MSMEs can get reimbursement for ISO certification fees, patent filing fees (50% rebate), trademark fees (50% rebate), and bar code registration fees.

Who Should Register?
Any business entity engaged in manufacturing or service activities that meets the MSME criteria can register. This includes:
- Sole proprietorships (traders, manufacturers, service providers)
- Partnership firms and LLPs
- Private Limited and Public Limited Companies
- Co-operative societies and self-help groups
- Hindu Undivided Families (HUFs)
- Producers and exporters
Even if you have not yet started operations, you can register based on your investment projection. Pondicherry businesses can especially benefit from PIPDIC (Puducherry Industrial Promotion Development Investment Corporation) MSME-linked schemes for subsidized land, sheds, and working capital.
Udyam Registration Process
Keep ready: Aadhaar number of the proprietor/authorized signatory, PAN of the business entity, GSTIN (if applicable), bank account details, and investment and turnover figures from the previous financial year's ITR.
The registration process requires Aadhaar OTP verification of the proprietor (for proprietorships) or an authorized signatory (for companies/LLPs). We assist you through this process smoothly.
We complete the registration on udyamregistration.gov.in with your business details — name, type, address, bank account, NIC activity codes, and investment/turnover figures. The portal auto-populates data from Income Tax and GST databases.
Upon successful registration, a permanent Udyam Registration Certificate is issued immediately with the Udyam Registration Number (URN). The certificate is valid for lifetime — no renewal required.
Cost: Udyam Registration is absolutely FREE on the government portal. We charge only a professional service fee for handling the process on your behalf and ensuring accuracy.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes — the old Udyog Aadhaar (UAM) registration has been replaced by the new Udyam Registration system effective July 1, 2020. Existing Udyog Aadhaar registrations were valid until March 31, 2021 and should have been migrated to the new Udyam system. If you have an old UAM certificate, you need to re-register on the Udyam portal to continue enjoying MSME benefits.
MSME/Udyam registration is voluntary — there is no legal obligation to register. However, without registration, you cannot access MSME-specific benefits such as CGTMSE loans, delayed payment protection, government procurement preference, and various subsidies. Given that registration is free and permanent, virtually all eligible businesses should register.
Under the MSMED Act, if a buyer fails to pay an MSME supplier within 45 days (or the agreed period, whichever is shorter), the buyer must pay compound interest at 3× the RBI bank rate. You can file a dispute application before the MSME Facilitation Council (MSEFC) of Pondicherry. The MSEFC first attempts conciliation; if unsuccessful, the dispute goes to arbitration. MSEFC orders are enforceable like court decrees. This is a powerful tool for small businesses dealing with delayed payments from large buyers.
GST registration is not mandatory for Udyam registration if you are below the GST threshold. The Udyam portal allows registration without GSTIN for businesses whose turnover does not require GST registration. However, if you are already GST-registered, providing the GSTIN during Udyam registration helps the system auto-verify your turnover figures. We guide you through the process regardless of your GST status.
